Alex Crews Shapes

Alex Crews Shapes or Die – We are very pleased to now be stocking a range of surfcraft from up and coming shaper Alex Crews. Having been on our radar now for a little while – Alex’s designs can be seen under the talented feet of some of Coolangatta and Newcastle’s best from time to time, as well as team riders Eli Steele & Sean Kettle. Relatively new at the shaping game – a second generation shaper (his dad also makes boards), with access to some of the best test pilots and feedback a young shaper could want (being Mitch Crews’ younger brother), Alex prides himself on making his customers experience better than the rest! Whether that be creating a magic stick to put a spark into someone’s qualifying campaign for the World Tour, a fun shape to spice up your surfing in average conditions or simply putting people on the right equipment to make the most of their water time. The first drop of boards are one of Alex’s most popular selling models – the ‘Monster‘.  A step down performance shape, with a sleek, forward of centre wide point.   Extra area up front coupled with flatter entry rocker ensures easy glide into waves & rapid acceleration right from the get go.    The straighter outline created by this forward wide point creates drive, hold and makes this...

Secondhand McCoy Double Ender

We have an Australian made Secondhand McCoy Double Ender hanging on our racks instore at the moment.  Boards made by legendary shaper Geoff McCoy himself seem to be getting rarer and rarer these days – and this one is a real beauty. This  7’2″ x 21 1/2″ x 3 1/8″ was made in Byron Bay Australia.  The Double Ender design was the first design that Geoff McCoy did on his own when he worked for Barry Bennett in 1967 – 8,  then later under the Keyo label 1968 – 70 and under his own own McCoy label 1970 – 2012. The Double Ender was the start of the really short boards in Australia, with Narrabeen as a base surf spot and the North Narrabeen board riders club (all of them) as test pilots.  It changed the way people surfed because the boards were so short and easy to turn compared to the 7’ plus boards that they had been surfing. These designs were a major part of the short board revolution that took place during that period. The modern incarnation of this shape is very well balanced in plan shape and thickness.  It has an elliptical outline with the the wide point in the middle and the nose and tail widths the same.  The thickness is held from the middle and evenly distributed out to nose and tail.  All...
