…Lost Voodoo Child Model

...Lost Voodoo Child ModelWe now have the …Lost Voodoo Child Model in store hanging on our racks at Zak Surfboards.  This is the first Mason Ho Pro Model surfboard, designed by shaper Matt Biolos  with feedback & creative input  from Mason.

...Lost Voodoo Child Model ...Lost Voodoo Child Collage 1The…Lost Voodoo Child Model is a mash-up of classic and current performance surfboard designs. Successfully combining the forward glide & projection off the front foot of shapes from the 80s, with the quick turning, loose, high performance demands of today’s progressive surfing off the tail.

The Voodoo Child has quite a unique outline compared to  most of the performance shortboards we have in the shop – with a pulled in nose, that broadens into a fairly parallel outline through the center of the board (for drive), that then leads into a distinct hip and finished with a wide squash tail.  This outline encourages quick, angular direction changes, particularly in and around the pocket which is evident in the 80s inspired lines that Mason likes to draw.

A beaked nose has been used in this design to help to carry a bit of extra volume forward into the nose – assisting with glide and paddle power .  The beak design also allows the shape to keep thickness in the nose and maintain a flatter rocker line through the front end of the board (because you don’t  have to kick up the rocker from the bottom to meet the nose like you do in most contemporary designs).

Don’t let all this talk of easy surfing and all things retro dis-way you though, this is no retro craft -  The Voodoo Child is more than capable of any of the cutting edge lines you want to take.MasonHo_brentbielmann286The Voodoo Child has a lower than typical nose rocker, a relaxed curve through the centre and a healthy kick in the tail.  Flatter in the nose and middle for paddle, acceleration and glide – with extra curve in the tail for quick & responsive direction changes.   The Voodoo Child also features a very modern, high performance, concave bottom -with a generous single to double concave – the deepest part being between the fins, under your back foot.   The curve and concave have been specially blended to easily generate speed, whip tight radius carves and allow controlled release for tail free maneuvers.

...Lost Voodoo Child Model ...Lost Voodoo Child Collage 2The rails on this model are full, forgiving and tucked soft throughout the length of the board.  The rails are foiled down in the last 12 inches of the tail, keeping a touch more volume under the rear foot for stability, while still allowing you knife into the wave face.

All these elements combine to create a fairly easy to ride & generously proportioned all around short board – definitely a pretty interesting model to look at, come in store and check the Voodoo Child and the rest of our …Lost Surfboards models in store or browse them ONLINE

…Lost Pocket Rocket

...Lost Pocket RocketWe now have a small size run of the …Lost Pocket Rocket finish shaped and signed by the big boss of …Lost Surfboards, Matt ‘Mayhem’ Biolos’ hanging on our racks in store at Zak Surfboards.  The Pocket Rocket has primarily been developed for WSL surfer Kolohe Andino. Ready to change up the bottom curves under his feet, this shortboard has a moderate even, continuous rocker, without any distinct flips or breaks compared to his previous signature board designs.  In particular, there is more curve in the center of the board without the usual kick in the tail.  This new curve has allowed Kolohe to approach the critical part of the wave with more aggression and most importantly, without losing speed and drive.

...Lost Pocket Rocket ...Lost Pocket Rocket Collage 1To make sure the rider maintains lift and speed, Matt has also deepened the concaves in this model somewhat from what Kolohe normally rides.  The end result is a great  high performance shortboard with built-in drive that won’t shy away from critical sections.  Although designed for a pro, this design does have a touch more volume than many high performance shortboards and a little extra surface area to keep you planing.  It probably can be ridden quite successfully in the right dimensions by those of us that aren’t quite at pro level yet ;)

...Lost Pocket Rocket ...Lost Pocket Rocket Collage 2Designed to be responsive and fun in small snappy beach breaks and excels in chest high to decently overhead – come and check out these …Lost Pocket Rockets in store or ONLINE

…Lost Round Nose Fish Redux Model

...Lost Round Nose Fish Redux ModelWe now have the …Lost Round Nose Fish Redux Model in store at Zak Surfboards  Recently released to commemorate the 20th year anniversary of the groundbreaking surf video “5’5″ X 19 1/4” (filmed  in 1995-1996 and released in 1997 starring Chris Ward and Cory Lopez) acclaimed surfboard shaper Matt Biolos decided to re-vamp his Round Nosed Fish RNF-Classic.

...Lost Round Nose Fish Redux Model ...Lost Round Nose Fish Redux Model Collage 1The RNF Classic and combined a somewhat narrow tail (for a fish shape)  with a fuller nose, more width than most were riding in that era,  balanced with its short length and flat-ish rockThe …Lost RNF was not only extremely fun to ride in average waves but was also quite playful in the pocket of steep waves, allowing tight radius carving in the hook.  Probably one of the first times a fun retro shape had been successfully reinterpreted for a high performance approach to the wave.

...Lost Round Nose Fish Redux Model ...Lost Round Nose Fish Redux Model ...Lost Round Nose Fish Redux ModelThis new 2017 incarnation of the RNF design utilizes a single fluted wing in the tail.  This wing allows for a straighter rail through the middle of the board for extra speed down the line, with a distinct pivot point to turn off.  A wider swallow tail, fuller nose and thicker foil throughout the shape makes this RNF version a lot more forgiving to surf, especially in weaker, mushier conditions.

…Lost Carbon Wrap

...Lost Carbon WrapWe now have the …Lost Carbon Wrap Puddle Jumper and Quiver Killer Models in store on our racks!!!  In what seems to be the year of Epoxy – …Lost has introduced its own CARBON WRAP™ surfboard construction technology – structurally engineered for optimum flex and performance.    This Carbon Wrap method was originally created by Gold Coast surfboard manufacturer, Dan MacDonald – designed to be nice and light-weight without sacrificing strength & most importantly enhancing performance.

The use of strategically placed carbon strips in Carbon Wrap construction eliminates the need for standard wooden stringers, throwing away the traditional flex patterns of single stringered surfboards.  Ultra-light and more flexible EPS cores are “wrapped” in an exoskeleton of strategically positioned, carbon fiber bands. These bands are aligned together at the nose, they gradually curve outward towards the rails as they extend down the board. This curve creates and controls a unique torsional flex that livens up as it nears the tail, just in front of the fins. The carbon then “wraps” from the bottom, around the rails and onto the deck.   This unique method creates Carbon Wrap’s lively flex – allowing the surfboard to really load up (leading into) and then release through turns.   The end result is a very positive feeling ride …resulting in next level speed and drive – allowing you to really spring out of your maneuvers and generate speed through carves.

...Lost Carbon Wrap ...Lost Carbon Wrap Puddle Jumper Collage 1One of the board models we have the Carbon Wrap technology available in is the …Lost Puddle Jumper.  A small wave speeder -  user friendly bliss with a high performance twist. This design features a concave bottom that transitions through to a distinct vee in the tail. The wide outline & thick foil up front means that this shape is easy to pick up waves on – there is also no lack of glide and stability on the front foot. The concave bottom adds lift and increases the rail curve, which allows for more radical top to bottom surfing. The straight rail line and vee through the tail keep the board moving forward and holds momentum when put on rail.

IMG_4369 ...Lost Carbon Wrap Puddle Jumper Collage 2“This is the most excited I have ever been about a small wave surfboard. Personally, it’s the best small wave board I have ever ridden. I have never made a claim like that about any board before” – Matt Biolos

 ...Lost Carbon Wrap

...Lost Carbon Wrap Quiver Killer Collage 1The other …Lost Carbon Wrap model we have in store is the Quiver Killer .  An extension of  the ShortRound model with some tweaks to give it a broader wave range.  It is a short, relatively flat and stubby board that is super fast and fun to ride.  With its rounded tail, reduced nose area, and the added rocker, the Quiver Killer has a touch more grip and control at high speed in bigger more powerful waves than the Short Round model.  This makes this model an excellent choice as an all-rounder & a travel board – a board that you can make work in most conditions.

Earth Technologies E-Tech …Lost Puddle Jumper Models

Earth Technologies E-Tech ...Lost Puddle Jumper ModelsWe have a some Earth Technologies E-Tech …Lost Puddle Jumper Models hanging on our racks at the moment.  These boards are imported from the USA – shaped in the …Lost factory in San Clemente then glassed by the crew at Earth Technologies (E-Tech) in Los Angeles.

Earth Technologies E-Tech ...Lost Puddle Jumper Models Earth Technologies E-Tech ...Lost Puddle Jumper ModelsThese are the closest thing that you can buy to a sustainable surfboard – the boards that come out of the E-Tech factory are built adhereing to the 3 Core “E” Principles the company was founded on:

1. Excellency in Craftsmanship. They take great pride in their American Hand-Crafted, California made boards. These boards are the anti-thesis to disposable Asian “pop-outs” as they are made by the highest skilled craftsmen in the business and made with the best performing materials resulting in “Rad Boards, Made Right..”

2. Eco-Sustainability.  Over the years they’ve painstakingly tried and perfected performance board building utilizing only the most eco-friendly materials (EPS recycled blanks, bio epoxy resin, wood veneers) and processes (recycling foam blank cut offs, bio epoxy resins, etc.) featuring our renown Earth Technologies board construction.

3. Education. In addition to being surfers, the crew at Earth Technologies are also story-tellers. They have made a deliberate attempt through many communication channels (social media, website, printed board catalogs, etc.) to share with others their unique eco board construction and demonstrate why there need not be a tradeoff between performance and eco-sustainability.

E-Tech has gained a reputation in the USA for working with some of the most advanced renewable and recycled materials available – such as Recycled EPS foam board blanks (instead of polyurethane or polystyrene) Entropy Resins sap-based bio-resin (instead of polyester resin) and Linseed wood decks that give their boards an unrivaled combination of strength and flex. E-Tech have introduced a bio-based alternative to fiberglass, as well as recyclable ballistic polyester. E-Tech is the only business in the U.S. to be using this “bio-glass” in manufacturing a commercial product.

…Lost V2 Shortboard round tail …Lost V2 Shortboard round tail collage 1Last time we had a quiver of these they didn’t last for long at all.  The V2 Shortboard features a low rocker up front for easy entry into waves, speed of the mark with heaps of acceleration and drive off front foot.  When coupled with a generous amount of rocker through the tail , this makes for an extremely quick, snappy board to surf . The curvaceous outline and smallish tail block allows this board to fit comfortably into steeper sections – giving this board a great wave range and really making it come alive in good conditions.

IMG_0418We got Matt to make this this model in a round tail for us, for a little extra hold & smoother rail to rail transitions.   These boards look primed for the coming winter swells or a trip to the tropics.  If you after a responsive performance shortboard that’ll work well in Victorian waves and overseas – these are definitely worth coming in and checking out.

The Round Up Model is pegged as a user friendly “Step-Up” – built to excel in waves that are better than average. The type of board that you pull out and surf when the waves have a bit of push behind them – but not the type of board that you’ll only surf on the biggest days of the year. The Round Up’s design is borrows from the ..Lost Rock Up model, adding a bit more tail area to make the board a little more versatile.  What you are left with is a round tail that will handle size and power, but doesn’t need bombing conditions to get going.

Firewire Mayhem Round Nose Fish

IMG_3547Firewire Mayhem Round Nose Fish

This design was developed by Matt “Mayhem” Biolos back in the mid-nineties and created a real storm in a world that was at the time stuck in a performance surfboard rut of 6’2″ x 18 1/4″ x 2 1/4″.  The 5’5″ x 19 1/4″ RNF surfboard & subsequent Film featuring various incarnations of this design really redefined what many considered a functional hi-performance surfboard to be.  They also changed the way many surfers approached waves by freeing up the rider to really draw different lines on wave face.  Check a clip with a bit of history on this board over at What Youth.

IMG_3548Firewire Mayhem Round Nose Fish 2IMG_3549The Round Nose Fish since it’s first release has been the world’s all-time best selling fish model – and it is now available in Firewire’s super robust Timbertek technology. This design still screams HiFi fun- it can be ridden in a wide range conditions, paddles well and will add that bit of spice to your surfing in marginal conditions.

It features a low rocker nose to tail with a central concave for lift & liveliness.  This concave then blends into a spiral vee through the tail. A board that is fast and loose, but with enough tidiness through the tail to keep you in control (& not wildly sliding out all over the place like you may feel on other fishes). Traditionally set up with larger side fins and a smaller trailer, this version of the Round Nose Fish comes with 5 fin plugs to give you the option of playing around with a multitude of fin set ups.

This allows this model to really fly down the line but also be redirected easily when put on rail.

A low, but curvy tail rocker right back back under the rear foot prevents this board from becoming sticky.  A board that really suits surfers with a strong, on- rail approach.  The type of board that you can really push against without it skipping out.

Instore only for these at the moment – I’ll have them online with more photos etc next week;)

New …Lost Surfboard Models are in

New ...Lost Surfboard Models instore

New …Lost Surfboard Models are in at Zak Surfboards. We have just got a big drop of new …lost models including the Sub Buggy, the Sub Scorcher II and the RV.

THE SUB BUGGY

...lost Surfboards Sub Buggy...lost Surfboards Sub Buggy 2...lost Surfboards Sub Buggy 3Matt Biolos’ latest model with Kolohe Andino – it’s a combination of the Sub Driver and Beach Buggy.  This board has been designed with smaller waves in mind, with a “good wave” approach. Foiled for fast, on-rail surfing, but full and forgiving enough to kill it in more marginal conditions. Matt has taken the outline of the Sub Driver, combined it with the rocker of the Beach Buggy, then blended it with a brand new foil. This new shape has been refined during the WQS PRIME and WCT comps, leading to a board that grovels well, but is still a true high-performance board. It is fast becoming a favorite for …lost team riders looking for an edge in small wave contests, as well as So Cal locals crew after something new.

The “R.V.”

...lost Surfboards R.V. RV...lost Surfboards R.V. RV 2...lost Surfboards R.V. RV 3The RV  is  one of Matt Biolos’ most recent “Domesticated” designs. The RV is exactly as its name implies…A “Recreational Vehicle”. Purpose built for extracting maximum enjoyment with minimum effort – a perfect sled to keep your surf stoke up through the summer months. Glide into waves with ease, cruise across wave faces, and coast through turns -  this design will be hard to beat in the smaller stuff.

The design stems from a blend of previous domesticated models – the Bottom Feeder, Couch Potato & the LayZboy. The bottom shape features a similar “tip to tip” vee bottom as its predecessors. The vee helps you overcome the extra width and volume, easing your transitions from rail to rail, also helping you control the extra surface area.

There is a double wing flyer through the tail, reducing the tails surface area through the fins – which helps increase bite and precision in turns. The result is that you can carve and push your turns a bit harder, without sliding out. This helps the board feel a little bit more solid and less skatey through turns.

The nose area in this model has been reduced in the front 12-18″ of the board. This helps the board comes around quicker through turns, like more of a performance shape. The vee is more subtle through the front front (for less push when paddling, more trim speed and an instant burst from the take off) this vee gets deeper though the fins for a more solid and forgiving…”controlled” feel.

Grab one of these R.V.s and make the most out of your time in the water this summer.

Sub-Scorcher II

...lost Surfboards Sub-Schorcher II...lost Surfboards Sub-Schorcher II 2...lost Surfboards Sub-Schorcher II 2The most recent incarnation of the extremely popular Sub Scorcher model.  The ¼”vee from the last 6” of the tail has been reduced and  rocker has been increased about 1/8” and the rail-line has been taken down 1/8”. These changes have been made to loosen up the board a little, allowing a more vertical approach and tighter turns in the pocket.

To counter any possible loss of drive with the increased rocker, the  outline been straightened slightly, also a touch more width has been added in the nose.  These Sub-Scorcher IIs are available in all kinds of tail shapes – we have picked a rounded square for our stock.

This model’s overall volume is similar to the original sub scorcher, but the extra thickness in the foil of the board up front allows it to be ridden very short by more advanced surfers.  A great small to average wave short-board, with a relatively pulled in/pointed nose, in place of full nose hybrid or traditional fish type design.

Come and check these and many more boards out instore – I’ll have them all individually Online shortly ;)
