We have a full size run of the brand new Firewire Pyzel Amigo FST now on our racks at Zak Surfboards. The Pyzel Amigo has been designed to fit somewhere right between a groveller and a full high performance shortboard. This model features a fast, lively, user friendly rocker, that has been designed to accelerate right from the moment you stroke into a wave - but still has a loose, snappy feel to it.
The Amigo has a fuller outline, with a nice hip leading into a wide tailblock. This keeps the board fast and allows you to break the fins free with control. There is a single concave that runs right the way through most of this board, with just a touch of double concave between the fins. This bottom shape helps the rider maintain speed and keep the board moving through flatter, weaker sections. If you love riding a short/wide board but crave a more high performance feeling, the Amigo is definitely a board to check out.

At Zak Surboards we have a bunch of stuff on the cards for 2016. To start off the year we have a large restock of new surfboards on the way to top up our supplies after such a busy December period. Missing sizes in many of the models we have on the floor will be replenished shortly. There are also a bunch of exiting new models that we will be adding to our range & some radical new construction options on our racks too.
In the short term, we have full size runs of the JS Blak Box II in the HYFI construction arriving in the next week or so. Also we have a full size run of the Stacey Surfboards Return of the Jam which hopefully should be in store early next week. In addition have some fresh stock DHD, the Fox model from ACSOD, more from Firewire (including some rumored additions to their lineup that just arrived in Australia) and some potential new models from …Lost Surfboards and Chilli as well.
Later this coming year we also plan on reinvigorating our surfboard import program, sourcing some high quality product for you direct from the home factories from some of the better shapers in the world outside of Australia. Full quivers of step ups from Hawaiian master craftsman Eric Arakawa are planned for our racks closer to the good wave/Indo season, also full size runs of several Sharp Eye Surfboards models are going to be ordered shortly plus some potential quivers from other USA & Hawaiian shapers too. If you are interested in grabbing a custom from either of these brands get in contact with us promptly (email Damien firstname.lastname@example.org) & we should be able to organize one to be shipped with our boards for the shop.
Full size run of the Firewire Evo in store on our racks here at Zak Surfboards. If you are chasing one of the very popular models, we have a full size run of them in stock and can ship them to just about anywhere in Australia.
The Firewire Tomo EVO (short for Evolution) Tomo‘s latest take on the MPH (Modern Planing Hull) design. Compared to Tomo’s other designs (the Vanguard & Vader models) the EVO has a soft outline, with blunter corners & more outline curve to encourage smoother carves & transitions. Incorporating elements of the or Nano this board definitely allows a more ‘in the pocket’ approach to the wave. With slightly more width in a central wide point, the EVO is an easy surfer in smaller, weaker waves.
Like most of the Tomo designs , the EVO still holds it’s own in good waves up to just overhead. The Evo has a close to symmetrical outline, with a rather unusual & unique bottom contour dubbed the “Double inside single concave into split quad concave” – jeepers, what a mouthful ;) This bottom contour generates heaps of lift when the board sits flat on the wave face, once on rail however it has knife like rail sensitivity and hold through turns. Tomo recommends that the EVO is ridden as short as possible, reflected in the user friendly volumes packed into the size range.
Remember we have the biggest range of FireWire stock in the State – over 100 boards in stock. All of these boards are individually listed & and updated daily on our online store

*You have 4 weeks to demo as many boards as you want (1 board per person). At the end of the 4th week you may purchase a new surfboard (no lay-by) and you will receive all of the hire/demo costs off the recommended retail price of the new board. This demo program is for all surfboards we offer for hire. We are very strict on the timeline conditions. 4 weeks is from the date of the first hire. You must retain all demo receipts to obtain the refund.
A bunch of new Firewire stock just arrived in store including a size run of the brand new Firewire Pyzel Next Step.
The Next Step is a choice board to have for those days when your regular shortboard starts to get a bit twitchy – ie. bigger, steeper & more powerful waves. It is an easy board to transition onto from your all rounder – still retaining a relatively loose feel but has the extra paddle-power and hold you need in solid surf.
It has a lot of rocker for steep drops, a bit of extra thickness through the front third for paddle power and slightly lower rails for control in those critical situations.
Jon Pyzel recommends that you ride this model anywhere from 2″ to 8″ up from your shortboard, in a similar width with a touch more thickness (more as you go longer) to help get you in early. This model comes with a 5-fin option for maximum versatility.

Firewire Mayhem Round Nose Fish
This design was developed by Matt “Mayhem” Biolos back in the mid-nineties and created a real storm in a world that was at the time stuck in a performance surfboard rut of 6’2″ x 18 1/4″ x 2 1/4″. The 5’5″ x 19 1/4″ RNF surfboard & subsequent Film featuring various incarnations of this design really redefined what many considered a functional hi-performance surfboard to be. They also changed the way many surfers approached waves by freeing up the rider to really draw different lines on wave face. Check a clip with a bit of history on this board over at What Youth.
The Round Nose Fish since it’s first release has been the world’s all-time best selling fish model – and it is now available in Firewire’s super robust Timbertek technology. This design still screams HiFi fun- it can be ridden in a wide range conditions, paddles well and will add that bit of spice to your surfing in marginal conditions.
It features a low rocker nose to tail with a central concave for lift & liveliness. This concave then blends into a spiral vee through the tail. A board that is fast and loose, but with enough tidiness through the tail to keep you in control (& not wildly sliding out all over the place like you may feel on other fishes). Traditionally set up with larger side fins and a smaller trailer, this version of the Round Nose Fish comes with 5 fin plugs to give you the option of playing around with a multitude of fin set ups.
Available from us both instore & Online
Finally we have all of our Firewire Stock now online – individually listed with 6 photos & most importantly, updated daily. If you are chasing a particular model with a particular fin system, you can check to see whether we have it instore simply by looking at our online store.
A bunch of new stock is due to arrive later this week/early next week which includes top ups of missing sizes in various models as well as a bunch of brand new models. Shortly we will have the Mayhem Round Nose Fish & Taylor Jensen Special T. Hold tight for those and I’ll pop some pictures of them up as soon as they arrive instore
We now have the Firewire Spartan instore at Zak Surfboards. THE SPARTAN is the latest signature surfboard for Michel Bourez, a design created in collaboration with Hawaiian shaper John Pyzel.
Described as a fast, drivey board to surf – the single concave bottom throughout makes this board move. The outline has a subtle hip in the tail to make this board easy to redirect.
A more pulled in tail gives this model bite and drive through turns. The low rail and performance rocker allows you to bury and hold you rail without skipping out. True to Michel’s style, THE SPARTAN loves big carves in powerful waves, but still feels great in weaker surf. A great allrounder for experienced/advanced riders – or a good choice in better waves for those less skilled. Come and check out the Firewire Spartan instore or ONLINE
Firewire Pyzalien, Hashtag & Double Agent models are now in stock at Zak Surfboards!!! Last week we got a big drop of fresh sticks from Firewire including size runs of their new Pyzalien, Hashtag & Double Agent models. We also have more of the popular Baked Potato and Addvance models in their new Linear Flex LFT technology + restocks of various models in Timbertek technology as well.
At first glance you can see that the Double Agent model takes ideas from both the Baked & Sweet Potato models into a more refined realm. It has a similar short curvy outline but is foiled in a distinct fashion from the mid point out to the tail. Firewire designer Dan Mann has fused ideas from the skimboard world with his potato models to try and incorporate more sensitivity, acceleration and control into turns.
A thicker foil up front keeps the paddle power in this board. A pronounced double concave throughout most of this board gives it speed and allows you to transition quickly from rail to rail. Designed for knee to shoulder high surf this zippy looking board should keep your stoke level high even in the most marginal conditions.
The Hashtag is a great new performance hybrid model from Firewire. Its narrower more refined outline makes it an excellent choice as a step up boards for riders or Spitfire or the Unibrow – with less tail area and a more refined rail for control in more powerful surf.
The Hashtag has low entry rocker and a shallow double concave running from the middle of the board that deepening out through the fins. This gives it a positive, lively feel on rail and allows for tighter turns in steeper parts of the wave. We now have the ever popular Pyzalien available in FST technology from Firewire. The PyzAlien is one of the most popular models by Pyzel Surfboards today and has been one of our best selling surfboards in PU in the past 18 months. It features a wide nose, wide tail outline that allows you to go shorter while still maintaining loads of drive.
The rocker is low in front and has a lot of curve running off the tail to keep it feeling snappy and loose, but fast and easy to paddle. The bottom has full concave with VEE off the tail to help get it on rail easier through tight, fast turns.
It’s a flat deck and fuller rail keep float to a maximum without taking away performance. This board is a great all around surfboard and also works great when it’s smaller – it’s been a popular seller at Zak Surfboards for a while now & it’s finally available in Firewire FST construction from us.
The new Firewire Tomo Vanguard, V4 & Nano models in FST have arrived at Zak’s!!!

We now have several of Firewire’s new Sub Moon model in stock.
The SUBMOON is the ultimate FUNshape. Designer Nev Hyman explains: “We combined a contemporary rocker and concaves and even thickness distribution with a quirky FUNshape outline that encourages a more vertical shortboard approach to the traditional longboard style of surfing. The outline has generous curve between your feet, which encourages the board to get on rail and TURN! The narrower moon tail provides bite, drive and direction, and the snub nose carries area forward for a bit of tip hang-cheater five FUN.”

We are now pleased to offer the new Firewire BAKED POTATO instore at Zak’s. The Baked Potato offers the same small wave performance as the SWEET POTATO with a few subtle design adjustments. The nose is pulled in slightly and some of the rail volume has been removed to allow for even faster rail to rail transfers. The BAKED POTATO has the same aggressive double concaves and ‘V-spine’ running down the center of the board which allows the board to get up on the rail much faster than the overall design would indicate. Primarily designed for smaller, weaker conditions, the BAKED POTATO will surprise you by its performance characteristics, and how the quad fins set further back and closer to the rail than usual, allow the board to hold with- out sliding, even in larger surf. Get cooking on a BAKED POTATO.
Dominators all sizes, spitfires all sizes, unibrow all sizes and a shit load more.
