Firewires advancement in surf technology, construction methods and environmental production has produced some of the most unique products in the surf market. Firewire product is avaialbe instore as well as a range of demonstration boards.

Firewire Tomo EVO

Firewire Tomo EVOJust got our first Firewire Tomo EVO model instore of what will be a full size run (& Demo).

Firewire Tomo EVOThe Firewire Tomo EVO (short for Evolution) Tomo‘s latest take on the MPH (Modern Planing Hull) design.  Compared to Tomo’s other designs (the Vanguard & Vader  models) the EVO has a soft outline, with blunter corners & more outline curve to encourage smoother carves & transitions. Incorporating elements of the or Nano this board definitely allows a more  ‘in the pocket’ approach to the wave. With  slightly more width in a central wide point, the EVO is an easy surfer in smaller, weaker waves. However, like most of the Tomo MPH designs , the EVO still holds it’s own in good waves up to just overhead.

EVO collageIMG_4942Eco collage 2The Evo has a close to symmetrical outline, with a rather unusual & unique bottom contour dubbed the “Double inside single concave into split quad concave” – jeepers, what a mouthful ;)  This bottom contour generates heaps of lift when the board sits flat on the wave face, once on rail however it has knife like rail sensitivity and hold through turns.  Tomo recommends that the EVO is  ridden as short as possible, reflected in the user friendly volumes packed into the size range.

Firewire Special T

Firewire Special TWe have just got a couple of the new Firewire Special T model instore.  This new model was developed by Firewire shaper  Dann Mann in collaboration with multiple World Longboard Title winner Taylor Jensen, aimed at a more traditional longboarding approach.

Firewire Special T collage 1Special T 11Firewire Special T collage 2Compared to the other longboards in the Firewire Range – this model has a much flatter rocker with a focus towards more trim, glide and speed. The rails are a more traditional 50/50 curve throughout the majority of the board, leading into a tucked edge in the tail.  This helps the board trim and sit comfortably in the curl, with the tucked edge making this board a bit more forgiving & easier to turn than many edgeless traditional shapes.

Special T 12There is a slight concave in the nose which helps the board sit on top of the water when noseriding.  The Firewire Special T has an area pin tail which encourages smooth turns, holds in well in the curl & helps  counter balances you while you are on the nose.

Special T collage 3Special T 13Special T collage 4A nice easy surfing traditional longboard or log – no excuses to not get wet when you have one of these in the quiver. Come check them out instore or ONLINE

Firewire Mayhem Round Nose Fish

IMG_3547Firewire Mayhem Round Nose Fish

This design was developed by Matt “Mayhem” Biolos back in the mid-nineties and created a real storm in a world that was at the time stuck in a performance surfboard rut of 6’2″ x 18 1/4″ x 2 1/4″.  The 5’5″ x 19 1/4″ RNF surfboard & subsequent Film featuring various incarnations of this design really redefined what many considered a functional hi-performance surfboard to be.  They also changed the way many surfers approached waves by freeing up the rider to really draw different lines on wave face.  Check a clip with a bit of history on this board over at What Youth.

IMG_3548Firewire Mayhem Round Nose Fish 2IMG_3549The Round Nose Fish since it’s first release has been the world’s all-time best selling fish model – and it is now available in Firewire’s super robust Timbertek technology. This design still screams HiFi fun- it can be ridden in a wide range conditions, paddles well and will add that bit of spice to your surfing in marginal conditions.

It features a low rocker nose to tail with a central concave for lift & liveliness.  This concave then blends into a spiral vee through the tail. A board that is fast and loose, but with enough tidiness through the tail to keep you in control (& not wildly sliding out all over the place like you may feel on other fishes). Traditionally set up with larger side fins and a smaller trailer, this version of the Round Nose Fish comes with 5 fin plugs to give you the option of playing around with a multitude of fin set ups.

Available from us both instore & Online

Firewire Spartan

Firewire SpartanWe now have the Firewire Spartan instore at Zak Surfboards.  THE SPARTAN is the latest signature surfboard for Michel Bourez,   a design created in collaboration with Hawaiian shaper John Pyzel.

Firewire SpartanDescribed as a fast,  drivey board to surf – the single concave bottom throughout makes this board move.  The outline has a subtle hip in the tail to make this board easy to redirect.

IMG_2612A more pulled in tail gives this model bite and drive through turns.  The low rail and performance rocker allows you to bury and hold you rail without skipping out.  True to Michel’s style, THE SPARTAN loves big carves in powerful waves, but still feels great in weaker surf.  A great allrounder for experienced/advanced riders – or a good choice in better waves for those less skilled. Firewire Pyzalien, Hashtag & Double Agent

Firewire Double Agent 1Firewire Pyzalien, Hashtag & Double Agent models are now in stock at Zak Surfboards!!! Last week we got a big drop of fresh sticks from Firewire including size runs of their new Pyzalien, Hashtag & Double Agent models.  We also have more of the popular Baked Potato and Addvance models in their new Linear Flex LFT technology + restocks of various models in Timbertek technology as well.

At first glance you can see  that the Double Agent model takes ideas from both the Baked & Sweet Potato models into a more refined realm.  It has a similar short curvy outline but is foiled in a distinct fashion from the mid point out to the tail.  Firewire designer Dan Mann has fused ideas from the skimboard world with his potato models to try and incorporate more sensitivity, acceleration and control into turns.

Firewire Double Agent 2

A thicker foil up front keeps the paddle power in this board. A pronounced double concave throughout most of this board gives it speed and  allows you to transition quickly from rail to rail.  Designed for knee to shoulder high surf this zippy looking board should keep your stoke level high even in the most marginal conditions.

Firewire Hashtag 1

The Hashtag is a great new performance hybrid model from Firewire. Its narrower more refined outline makes it an excellent choice as a step up boards for riders or Spitfire or the Unibrow – with less tail area and a more refined rail for control in more powerful surf.

Firewire Hashtag 2

The Hashtag has low entry rocker and a shallow double concave running from the middle of the board that deepening out through the fins. This gives it a positive, lively feel on rail and allows for tighter turns in steeper parts  of the wave. Firewire Pyzalien 1 We now have the ever popular Pyzalien available in FST technology from Firewire.  The PyzAlien is one of the most popular models by Pyzel Surfboards today and has been one of our best selling surfboards in PU in the past 18 months. It features a wide nose, wide tail outline that allows you to go shorter while still maintaining loads of drive.

The rocker is low in front and has a  lot of curve running off the tail to keep it feeling snappy and loose, but fast and easy to paddle. The bottom has full concave with VEE off the tail to help get it on rail easier through tight, fast turns.

It’s a flat deck and fuller rail keep float to a maximum without taking away performance.  This board is a great all around surfboard and also works great when it’s smaller – it’s been a popular seller at Zak Surfboards for a while now & it’s finally available in Firewire FST construction from us.

Firewire Nano

Firewire Nano 4The NANO is one of the latest offerings from Firewire, what designer Daniel ‘Tomo’ Thompson refers to as the latest incantation of his ‘Modern Planing Hull’ designs.  Tomo’s goal for these hull designs “have always been to improve upon current equipment, making the high performance surfing experience faster, easier and more intuitive for any rider.”Firewire Nano 3

According to Tomo, the advantage of these planing hull designs is that they “effortlessly gain and maintain speed, linking sections with acceleration and ease.  The drive and precision of the parallel rail line working to draw both powerful carves and radical tight hacks with a subtle shift in weight. The control of the Modern Planing Hulls are that they sit perfectly centered beneath the riders feet with no swing weight up front and no drag through the rear.” (see http://dantomo.blogspot.com.au/ for more)

The Nano combines radical performance with free flowing speed in a very natural controlled ride that is both user friendly & cutting edge. Effortlessly fast and loose, yet predictable and drivey.

Firewire Nano 1The NANO has a clean outline with its wide point forward of center, the nose has been trimmed back and rounded so there are less points and area to catch up front.  There is a relatively wide chopped square tail for speed and glide with the corners rounded  for smoother turns. The rail line through back third of the board is relatively straight which gives you increased control through turns. Despite its size, the Nano has a surprisingly good wave range with excellent ability to hold its rail in bigger punchy waves without feeling too loose or twitchy.

Firewire Nano 6Tomo suggests riding this design in the middle to lower end of your preferred volume range for intermediate to advanced surfers.

Check out Tomo testing out a prototype of the Nano in the clip below ;)

Firewire Sub Moon in stock

Firewire Sub Moon 1

Firewire Sub Moon 2

Firewire Sub Moon 3
We now have several of Firewire’s new Sub Moon model in stock.

The SUBMOON is the ultimate FUNshape. Designer Nev Hyman explains: “We combined a contemporary rocker and concaves and even thickness distribution with a quirky FUNshape outline that encourages a more vertical shortboard approach to the traditional longboard style of surfing. The outline has generous curve between your feet, which encourages the board to get on rail and TURN! The narrower moon tail provides bite, drive and direction, and the snub nose carries area forward for a bit of tip hang-cheater five FUN.”

Firewire Baked & Sweet Potatoes instore

We are now pleased to offer the new Firewire BAKED POTATO instore at Zak’s.  The Baked Potato offers the same small wave performance as the SWEET POTATO with a few subtle design adjustments. The nose is pulled in slightly and some of the rail volume has been removed to allow for even faster rail to rail transfers. The BAKED POTATO has the same aggressive double concaves and ‘V-spine’ running down the center of the board which allows the board to get up on the rail much faster than the overall design would indicate. Primarily designed for smaller, weaker conditions, the BAKED POTATO will surprise you by its performance characteristics, and how the quad fins set further back and closer to the rail than usual, allow the board to hold with- out sliding, even in larger surf. Get cooking on a BAKED POTATO.

Firewire Stealth & Lost Sub Scorher In Store Now

The “Stealth”…. is a high performance, secret weapon hybrid formulated by “hiding” our …Lost “Rocket” model into the guise of a pointed nose performance short board. Team riders (“Pros”) were stoked on “The Rockets” performance in small surf but were afraid to use in contests for fear of negative reaction from judges. At the same time, the “Bros” were asking for a “Short board that surfs like the Rocket” so I can ride a pointed nose outline. Viola! The combination of extreme tail rocker and deep concave provide lift and unparalleled turning radius. The Low entry rocker with a traditional pulled in nose template allows performance short board antics with the speed of a “fish”. Full rails and wide tail keep everything easy to use for everyone. Available now in FST technology as a 5 fin “convertible”. Finally, there’s a board that can be “everything for everyone”

The “Sub Scorcher” I wanna board for ‘mush’. Something short and wide, but still a hi performance shortboard….something like Dane’s board”, Kolohe Andino.

The challenge was laid down. Starting with the old SD, we squashed the dims to 5’6″ x 19 3/4″ x 2 3/16″, lowered the entry rocker and shallowed out the concave through the center to straighten the rail line (for drive) and made it easier to lay such a wide platform over on a rail. Voila! Our stubbiest shortboard yet, but it still carves like a real board. Kolohe wanted to call it “The Trashcan Lid” because you don’t need to go dumpster diving to get one of these.

Demo in store : STEALTH 6’0 X 19 1/2 X 2 5/16

                               SUB SCORCHER: 6’2 X 20 1/2 X 2 5/8
